Aster project: analysis of the mission to the triple asteroid

Abstract

The activity of A. Sukhanov at INPE this time may be divided into two parts: 1. Participation in the Brazilian/Russian Aster project the goal of which is a mission to triple asteroid (153591) 2001 SN263. The contribution of A. Sukhanov in this project includes organization of cooperation with the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences and mission analysis and is very important. This activity, despite its high importance, has rather narrow applied significance. Although the activity of A. Sukhanov on the Aster project is to include a theoretical part concerning the analysis of the spacecraft maneuvering in the Earth's sphere of influence and near the asteroid. Results of this analysis may have a general importance outside of the limits of the specific project. This is why this analysis is separated into three individual sections 2, 3, and 4 of this Work Program. 2. Theoretical and academic activity jointly with Brazilian colleagues which includes theoretical and numerical analysis and optimization of motion of space objects of different kinds, development and computer programming of mathematical methods for the analysis and optimization mentioned above, supervising student projects, and giving lectures. This activity has a general significance and will end with joint publications in international journals of the results and computer programs to be modified or installed at INPE. Note that all theoretical researches of A. Sukhanov will be done jointly with his Brazilian colleagues. Participation of students in the researches also is planned. (AU)
