Abstract

The first line of embryonic tick cells established in Brazil was to Amblyomma sculptum Berlese, whose cellular products were patented (see background). This species, until recently was synonym of Amblyomma cajennense (Fabricius). The species A. cajennense is restricted to the Amazon and part of the Midwest, while A. sculptum occurs in the rest of the country, and this is the main species esponsible for transmitting R. rickettsii in its distribution area. The most frequent tick-borne diseases are Rickettsiosis, Borreliosis and to a lesser extent the Erliquioses and Protozoonoses. In the present study we suggest to standardize the culture of embryonic cells of Rhipicephalus sanguineus (Latreille), origin tropical and temperate, to obtain cell lines, and to cultivate Ehrlichia canis, as well as to analysis the proteins expressed in uninfected and infected cells.
