Abstract
The proposal for the one-year visit by of Professor Haakon Fossen aims to build closer scientific collaboration relations between Brazil and Norway, which started in July 2013 with the CAPES-SIU project (2013-10080; 2015-10007). This project, entitled "Integrated orogen-sedimentary basin studies", focuses on scientific interaction between Brazilian and foreign researchers and promotes exchange of graduate students and teaching activities. The activities of the visit, which will have Professor Renato Paes de Almeida (USP), a member of the CAPES-SIU project, as responsible USP professor, will focus on scientific discussions around orogenic processes, particularly those that relate to similarities and differences between the Brazilian and Scandinavian belts. Specific factors in this context include boundary and thermal conditions, strain rate and rheology of orogenic belts, possible expressions of extensional and transtensional structures, and the role of pre-rift structures in the basement of the Tucano Basin. Similarities and differences will be accessed and analyzed to assess their importance and consequences for orogenic and structural developments, which are often related to inherited structural framework during subsequent continental rifting. Therefore, the activities of this visit will also include some field campaigns involving students and teachers from USP and UERJ. Thus, the visit will also be linked to two other research projects funded by FAPESP (2014/16739-8; 2013/19061-0). The visit will also provide scientific interaction between the visiting researcher and students of USP and other institutions (UERJ and UFPR) through teaching activities and lectures, which will have Structural Geology as their main theme. Lectures will also be given during "summer schools" at USP (summer school - September 2016) as part of the planned activities for the CAPES-SIU project, and will also feature lectures from other professors involved in the project.
