Abstract

The Riacho do Pontal Belt is comprehended in the Brasiliano/Pan-African orogenic fold system developed in NE Brazil. It is located between the southwestern part of the Borborema Province and the northern limit of the São Francisco Craton. Is divided in three domains: the External Domain, which is related to a nappe system of the Casa Nova Group. The latter is composed of supracrustal rocks, mainly clastic metasedimentary; the Central Domain, which shows geophysical signatures quite similar to the Precambrian suture zones; and Internal Domain, which is cross cut by the Pernambuco Lineament in your northern limit, and is characterized by early-Tonian granitic intrusions. This last Domain is composed by the Paulistana and Santa Filomena complexes, consisting of medium-grade metamorphic rocks with a complex structural pattern. These units lack in detailed geochemical and isotopic studies, and only a few data available in the literature. In this sense, the goals of this research project include: i) the selection of areas for detail geological mapping and petrographic studies; iii) geochemical analysis of metamafic and metasedimentary rocks in terms of major, trace and rare earth elements. These analyses might help understand the petrogenetic processes involved in the genesis of these rocks and the characterization of the tectonic environments; iv) the definition of the ages of crystallization and metamorphism of the metamafic and metasedimentary sequences from the Paulistana and Santa Filomena complexes by U-Pb and Lu-Hf methods in zircon and monazite, and Sm-Nd in whole rock and mineral separates. Finally, this research aims to contribute to the understanding of the geodynamic evolution of the Riacho do Pontal Fold Belt, and comprehend the relations with the Cariris Velhos and Brasiliano / Pan-African Orogeny.
