Abstract

The incorporation of medical technologies in sexual and reproductive health have occurred rapidly in Brazil, mainly from the second half of the twentieth century. Reproductive technologies (TRs) emerged to treat infertility helping infertile couples to conceive, but these technologies have also opened new possibilities for those who live other forms of relationship with partners of the same sex to imagine the possibility of reproduction. The development of TRs in the country was marked by a low regulatory context. To regulate the practice a resolution of the Federal Council of Medicine was established in 1992 and regulated the field to be replaced by resolution n. 2013 in 2013, which expands access to techniques for single people, married to the opposite sex partner or same sex. With this change the techniques are no longer facing a health problem (infertility) and become available for other situations where reproduction is not possible. The study's focus is the relationship between normative dimension subject enabled the use of technology, market and rights perspective. Therefore there will be a survey of the existing services in the country and its practices (quantitative component) and an investigation into the process of changing rules and the position of health professionals about this through in-depth interviews (qualitative component).
