Abstract

The aim of this research is to quantify inflammatory cytokines and ZAG in peripheral blood, and to evaluate gene expression of anti-cachectic and pro-cachectic inflammatory cytokines, and proteins involved in lipid metabolisms in whole blood samples of patients with gastric and biliopancreatic confluence cancer. This cross-sectional study will be conducted on 32 adult patients, of both genders, with gastric (n=15) and pancreatic (n=17) cancer, and 15 healthy controls. Food intake and body composition of all volunteers were doing assessed. Questionnaires assessing fatigue and quality of life were applied in patients with cancer. The diagnosis of cachexia will be made based on pre-established criteria. Anti-cachectic and pro-cachectic inflammatory cytokines and the adipokine ZAG were doing measured in peripheral blood samples. Additionally, gene expression of inflammatory cytokines, ZAG and PPAR-gamma in whole blood will be performed. Statistical analysis will be performed using specific software. (AU)
