Detection of infectious agents in wild animals by morphological, histopathological and molecular techniques

The boundaries between the human population, domestic animals and wild ecosystem are narrowed and intertwined gradually as a result of human action. Within the concept of One Health increasingly research is conducted, in order to understand the epidemiological correlations of various diseases. The presence of etiologic agents in the environment represents a risk for the populations of susceptible hosts, been them, human or animal. Through the years, diagnoses made by the Serviço de Patologia de Animais Selvagens, from FCAV-Unesp, Jaboticabal-SP, assembled a collection of biological materials with scientific contribution potential, and that can produce publications with greater impact if subjected to molecular biology methodologies. Thus, this project composed of three sub-projects, which includes infectious agents into three big taxonomic classes, avian, reptiles and mammals, objective: to perform morphological and molecular detection of kidney flukes in wild birds and describe the macroscopic and microscopic findings; investigate the presence of hemosporidia and hemogregarines in wildlife terrapins in the anthropic environment, using morphological and molecular methods; verify the presence of blue tongue-causing reovirus, as well as antibodies against this agent in Brazilian deers and domestic ruminants in the adjacent region, as well as carry out entomological survey in the places mentioned to obtain data on the vector population and its distribution. The results of this study will be submitted for publication in international journals and presented at national and international conferences. (AU)
