Abstract

Public Health, in Brazil, is a field of social action, scientific knowledge and political practice that produces mutual relations individual-to-societal, fact that have been developed from different modes, structures and institutional frameworks, and, yet, remains remnants of a social, economic and political drives set at the time of configuration and consolidation of modernity. Regarding both the current context of reflexive modernization and ongoing process of individualization, which arises as core matters upon social production in health, despite the very contradiction between individual to collective interests, it is, indeed, the role and nature of the modern state. In this context, critical reinterpretation of concepts and/or notions and standpoints that are extremely relevant to the field of Public/Collective Health in Brazil can contribute to the (re)definition of multilevel public action. This project aims to deepen the knowledge about the individualization process in the contemporary context and its relation to the field of the Public/Collective Health practices, actions and policies in Brazil, by taking into account different aspects of ongoing process of individualization at both theoretical and empirical spectrum. Regarding methodology, this project is articulated upon subprojects, which have diverse empirical research-designs related to questions concerning individualization and health. Therefore, procedures and research techniques are aligned to the given specific objectives, which were proposed in various projects. The main expected result is the production of knowledge at theoretical and empirical basis, given the insufficient production on that topic in the field of Public/Collective Health in Brazil. Furthermore, it is expected to identify the configuration of processes of the individualization phenomenon in the health field in Brazil and how these processes are being produced (or not) by the field of Public/Collective Health.
