Abstract

Bruxism is considerated as an repetitive activity of the masticatory muscles, wich is caracterized for the grind the teeth and/or hold or boost ja. The present study will aim to establish a clinical model to evaluate muscle activity, bite force and salivary cortisol in children 6-8 years with bruxism, before and after application of low power laser in acupoints, with a laser 786,94nm, 0.04 cm2, 70mW, 20s per point, and 6 points on each side directly be applied on the skin by reference to the acupoints. The children are divided into 4 groups (n = 19), group 1 will receive therapy with low-power laser applied to acupoints, group 2 occlusal splint, the group 3 will be the placebo group, and group 4 will be the monitoring control group. Muscle activity evaluations will be conducted with the EMG BTS TJMOINT, and bite force will use a digital dynamometer. Evaluations will be carried out before therapies, one and six months after, in all of the groups. The results obtained will be computed and statistical analysis carried out by means of an initial descriptive analysis for determining point estimates, refinements and validation via graphical methods, by the methods of analysis of variance (residual analysis) and parametric tests (checking of preconditions. Also, to determine the accuracies of the estimates and comparisons, estimation methods will be used intervealar parameters of interest. When necessary, can be used techniques not paarmétricos changes or testing the data analysis. the chi-square test will be performed, test, t-student, analysis of variance (ANOVA), adopting a significance level of 95% (p 0.05).
