Abstract

The project aims to analyze the interactions of the Rockefeller Foundation with medical educational institutions in Sao Paulo established through agreements with three medical schools, two from the University of São Paulo (USP) and also with the old Escola Paulista de Medicina (EPM) currently inserted in the structure of the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP). In this direction, aims to collect, organize, systematize and analyze a set of information about the relations between the Rockefeller Foundation and the University of São Paulo, especially in the creation and implementation of the Ribeirão Preto School of Medicine (FMRP-USP) between 1952 and 1960 and the role played by this agency in the definition of medical specialties within the Faculty of Medicine of São Paulo (USP) during the defined period. At the same time, the Rockefeller Foundation has also established partnerships with the Escola Paulista de Medicina in order to support the training of researchers and laboratories, thereby helping to consolidate medical education model parameterized by biomedical research. The research therefore aims to identify and analyze local partnerships, the agreements reached, the resources transferred, so check tensions, limits and impasses in the design of a model underpinned medicine in designing modernization of clinical processes and procedures, therapeutic and organizational.
