Abstract

The objective of this Project is the development of biotecnological treatment for tire waste devulcanization. The process is based on Sulphur bonding breakdown by tetrathionate hydrolase enzyme produced by Acidithiobacillus sp. Due to the biological conditions the requirement of energy are lower than compared to traditional techniques and with lower emission of unhealthy compounds. The Recyclatech (Scothland company) started implement similar technology using A. ferrooxidans in industrial plants, which re-assures the feasibility of the bioprocess. As result of the biotreatment, it is expected to have more porous rubber and with lower Sulphur content. This product could be mixed and vulcanized with raw rubber without compromise the physical properties of final product. This technology could be very attractive for producers and importers of tires.
