Abstract

Intrafamiliar violence against children and adolescents still represents a great challenge for the health sector and other protection sectors. The social, emotional, psychological, and cultural factors associated with the lack of guidance to the users and professionals of the aforementioned sectors - who are usually afraid of facing the further consequences of violence -, make it difficult to recognize and follow the violent events. The Study, Teaching, and Research Group from the Primary Health Care Program for Students (PROASE) has studied violence against children and adolescents for over ten years, and it has broadly discussed this theme. The main findings of the group were: (i) the phenomenon of violence was not completely appropriated by the health sector; (ii) public actions and policies directed to these families are fragmented; and (iii) interdisciplinary, interinstitutional, and intersectoral actions are fragile or absent. In this sense, the main goal of the present study is to improve the comprehension of assistance to children, adolescents, and their families involved in violence, under the perspective of these actors and social assistance professionals. The theoretical and methodological framework of this qualitative study relies on the principles of the Complexity Paradigm. Data will be collected using document search, semi-structured interviews, focus groups, minimum maps of relationships of the personal social network, and observation. Violence can be understood as a phenomenon that the health sector should tackle, with respect to its intrinsic multidimensional criteria. Violence and its factors, outcomes, and effects are closely related to health, and consequently to the Nursing care. (AU)
