Abstract

This research aims to develop a compact test method for characterizing the residual strength of fiber reinforced concrete (FRC). The tests typically used for this purpose are the bending tests using prismatic specimens, which are very large and difficult to handle. The main test used today is the proposed by the European standard EN14651 (2007) that correlates load and crack mouth opening. This test turn possible to obtain constitutive equations that allow the parameterization of FRC as a structural material. However, the new test proposed here also allows the determination of the load versus crack width curve, that is something that does not occur with other compact test methods as the Barcelona test. The work will develop from already casted specimens used for the EN14651 tests. The specimens will be obtained with the ends of prismatic specimens that have already been tested in flexural order to obtain correlation between these tests. The idea is to obtain, in a reliable way, constitutive equations suitable for evaluation of the CRF performance to be used as a reliable parameter to design structures. If this possibility is verified, it is possible to obtain a parametrization of fiber reinforced shotcrete on the same basis of modern design method for structures with CRF, such as the Model Code fib (2010).
