Abstract

In this work we report the characterization of Rhynchosciara americana histone genes cluster nucleotide sequence. It spans 5131 bp and contains the four core histones and the linker histone H1. The putative control elements were detected. We also determined the copy number of the tandem repeating unit through real time PCR and the unequivocal chromosome location of its unique locus in chromosome A band 13. These data were compared with the histone clusters from Drosophila genus, which are the closest known homologues. (AU)
