Abstract
The project proposes the study and comparison of current and past coastal and continental sedimentary environments, in which organic remains are accumulated and preserved. The aim is to understand how, to what extent, and which communities belong to the accumulated biomass, and how underwater environments operate to preserve the organic matter. For the studies on current assemblies, we selected coastal environments (i.e. Araruama Lagoon System, RJ), and continental fluvial environments (i.e. Mogi Guacu River, SP), while for the comparison, we selected environments similar to the current, and present in sedimentary record (i.e. Vazante Group, Pacujá Formation in Jaibaras Basin; Rio Bonito and Teresina Formations in the Paraná Basin), and calcareous tufa (Quixeré, CE), covering a range of ages from the Neoproterozoic to Quaternary.
