Abstract
The purpose of this Project is to develop a virtual simulation methodology able to analyze electromagnetic phenomena interfering with electroelectronic components, systems and vehicles before building the first prototype, anticipating corrective actions and reducing late modification costs. Global competition between carmakers, aircraft makers and their suppliers is provoking a rush to increasingly innovative and optimized development processes. Between many practices used, virtual simulation has reached an important recognition and appears at the vanguard of applied research. Currently, electroelectronic systems design and validation are based, most of the times, on empirical formulas and physical verifications in the final stages of the development. This tends to decrease the number of solutions and reaction time in case of failures, as well as increase tests, prototypes and equipment costs. Contrasting with mechanical simulation, considered mature and reliable, electromagnetic interference simulation still needs more proofs of correlation with physical measurement and continues under exploited despite its great potential. Considering the necessity of anticipating electromagnetic compatibility problems in an exhaustive and conclusive way, as well as optimizing validation time and cost, the project proposed by LACE Engenharia makes correlation between systemic virtual analysis and periodic physical test results made in semi-anechoic chamber. The proposal aims to work straight on Achilles's heel of electromagnetic simulation which is the lack of consistency of simulated results compared to laboratory tests. The project development will have the support of Embraer and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, as they showed interest to develop solutions and increase virtualization in their validation processes. In Phase 1, the feasibility of the project will be demonstrated through modelling, simulation and physical measurement of a simple component. It is expected to obtain a good correlation and thus be able to step forward to Phase 2 where the focus will be put on more complex systems (whole cars or aircraft, etc.).A robust solution will then be available for the market, making it possible to get reliable previsions of electromagnetic interference before the first prototype. LACE Engenharia is a Brazilian company specialized in EMI/EMC solutions. It came up with the objective of addressing automotive and aerospace demands with respect to tests, measurement and exhaustive solutions for electroelectronic systems development. In this context, this research project corresponds to an expressive demand of our clients and is aligned with our innovation strategy and constant search for technological challenges. (AU)
