Abstract

Knowledge of the variation of permittivity with temperature of microwave heated materials is essential for the efficient use of high power industrial microwave generators. Most permittivity data found in the literature are applicable only at room temperature. Less common are published values of permittivity variation with higher temperatures for 2.45 GHz applications and especially for 5.8 GHz applications. The purpose of this project is to measure the variation with temperature of the permittivity of various materials of industrial interest irradiated either by 2.45 GHz or 5.8 GHz microwaves. Resonant cavity perturbation measuring method will be used. Sample heating and permittivity measurement will be simultaneous, contrary to the most common procedure requiring sample heating by other methods preceding sample introduction into the cavity. (AU)
