Abstract

The dissemination of geological knowledge to non-specialised audiences is a challenge that goes mainly by the difficulty in translating and interpreting the physical environment in a logic and interactive way. It is essential that the geological information be disseminated in a different approach from that used to spread purely scientific information. In terms of geodiversity, the first step to obtain a solid foundation that will allow the dissemination of knowledge to different audiences, among other applications, is the inventory of geological heritage, initial and essential step in any Geoconservation strategy. Thus, this project has two main objectives: i) To complement the inventory of the geological heritage of the coastal region of São Paulo, between the towns of Guarujá and Cananeia (inventory between Ubatuba and Bertioga already done) and; ii) To apply enhancement tools with support of geospatial technologies in pre-selected geosites in the northern part of the coast. It is intended, with the inventory of all the state's coast, to have a solid diagnosis about the sites with scientific, tourist and educational data which, when provided to competent governmental administrative bodies, will serve for future territorial management actions taking into account the geoscientific criteria. Moreover, the application of these geospatial technologies will turn the information generated by academic research projects into democratic information, which can be shared with the population. It is the social role of Geoconservation. (AU)
