Abstract

The knowledge of the age of a person can be important information in certain contexts. A user interface, for example a robot or telephone application may interact differently depending on the estimated age of the user. Safety aspects may be improved, for example, when it is detected that a child is using a certain answering system. Recently, age estimation was proposed by the analysis of the image of the face of a person. This proposal aims to study and understand the effectiveness of the speech signal to be used as a reliable source for the automatic estimation of the age range of a speaker. (AU)
