Abstract

The importance of knowledge as an organizational asset able to generate competitive advantage is a concept that has consolidated in recent decades. As a consequence of this importance, knowledge management (KM) has become a central theme in order to ensure competitiveness. The KM can be defined as the managerial effort to promote the acquisition and creation of knowledge, as well as availability it to the individuals and groups of the organization, aiming its use or reuse, sustaining a cycle of knowledge within the organization. To achieve this goal, the organization needs to create an organizational context, aimed at learning and sharing knowledge among individuals, groups and departments of the organization. In this context, the organizational structure becomes a factor that directly influences the practice of KM, since it is related to the way knowledge is retained or formalized, with the autonomy and decision-making power granted to individuals and with the integration of employees of different departments and areas of the organization. Thus, the main objective of this research is to analyze the impact of organizational structure characteristics on the three stages that define the KM process (acquisition, distribution and use of knowledge) in companies in the specialized services industry. To reach this objective, this study adopts a quantitative method, based on survey and uses structural equation modeling. (AU)
