The cultural dimension of knowledge organization: an analysis of epistemic comunities in the international context of Information Science

Abstract

The cultural dimension in inherent to knowledg organzaiton (KO) and is getting na increasing academic space in this domain, especially in the ISKO environment. That approach is centered in the impossibility of "neutrality" in knowledge representation because this belief can lead to discriminations, exclusions or cultural dominations. Neverthless, there is no systematic and analytic study of this issue that can characterize the international scholar community about this. In this sense, this study aims to identify, characterize and analyze the scientific bahavior of this epistemic community (Meyer, Molineux-Hodgson, 2010), more specifically within the ISKO environment, in order to identify the research evaluation and tendencies in cultural issues of KO as well as the "power to influence" of that community (Wolfram, 2016). The research universe will be the scientific literature of ISKO basing on a list of the top tem authors (according to a previous study of Guimarães, 2016). The complete list of publication of these authors under this theme will be searched in KO literature and Web of Science databases and it will be verified their dialogicity and influence degrees according to their citation scores. Basing on this it will be possible to establish a general research landscape of cultural issues in KO, with the central autors, their dialogical relations, scientific influences, as well as a map of the leading institutions, publishing vehicles and theoretical conceptions.
