Abstract

The study of the biodiversity of benthonic macroinvertebrates comprises three sub-projects relating to large taxonomic groups: Crustacean, Mollusks and Insects. It aims to improve the taxonomic knowledge of the groups, increase the collections in museums, especially in the Zoological Museum of the University of São Paulo, so that they can better deal with the needs of academic and applied research and prepare specialists in the area of biodiversity. It also aims to establish identification keys for the groups studied, facilitating the work of students and researchers in biodiversity studies, nature conservation and use of these animals as indicators of water quality.
