Abstract

This research is inserted in a qualitative paradigm and it is intended to guide the work with an ethnographic interpretative character, affiliated to a transdisciplinary strand of Applied Linguistics. Considering the necessity to (re)think the education of deaf students, observing the changes in practices of communication and production of meanings in today's increasingly multilingual and multimodal world, this study aims to analyze the semiotic repertoires employed in deaf students processes of communication in teaching situations, focusing on how are the relationships of interest, engagement and (re)presentation of different linguistic and semiotic resources. By identifying the different resources that constitute the semiotic repertoires of these deaf students and their indexical values and also understanding how they communicate and produce meanings, we intend to discuss the implications of considering the semiotic repertoires in the construction of educational strategies for deaf education. The generation of records to be analyzed in the research will be done through observation and video recordings of teaching situations of which the deaf youth and adults are participants, in addition to notes and diaries prepared by the researcher and group interview with the participants of the study. Based on the results found, it is hoped to collaborate with the existing discussions on deaf education and to contribute to studies on multilingual and multimodal communication, still incipient in the context of deaf studies.
