Abstract
This research project aims to present an analysis of hydro-energy systems, in terms of water quantity and hydropower production, for several scenarios of climate change. The justification for this project is that the knowledge of the effects of climate change on a system contributes to a better management of its water and energy resources.The methodology consists of the development of a hydrological-hydroelectric model for the studied area. For the hydrological model, the regions identified as hydrologically homogeneous will be considered. For the hydroelectric model, the hydropower production function will be employed. The hydrological-hydroelectric model will be developed, calibrated, validated and simulated using a free computing tool called RS Minerve.The study object is Três Marias hydroelectric plant, located in the upper São Francisco river basin. This is the first plant in the basin, for this reason its operation affects the amount of water released for the power generation in downstream plants, such as in Sobradinho, Itaparica, Paulo Afonso complex, and Xingó.It is hoped that the results of this research can support the decisions related to the government incentives in alternative sources of power generation. In addition, it is hoped to contribute with knowledge that can prepare, for any predicted scenario, the companies responsible for the operation of the national hydroelectric plants. (AU)
