Abstract

The academic visit of Alida Christine Metcalf to CECULT-UNICAMP aims to deepen the exchange of scholarship and scientific collaboration in the areas of digital cartography and historical cartography. Professor Metcalf has been developing important projects in this area, such as ImagineRio and the study of representations of the Atlantic World on early 16th century maps. A number of individual and collective research projects in progress at CECULT, especially those linked to the thematic project "Between slavery and the burden of freedom: workers and the ways of exploiting labor in historical perspective" (Case No. 2013/21979-5) are interested in these projects and the use of digital cartography. The exchange of information between researchers will be carried out through lectures and workshops for the IFCH-UNICAMP graduate students. In addition, the arrival of Alida Metcalf is part of an inter-institutional exchange between Rice University and UNICAMP, in which CECULT is a very active partner. At the core of this inter-institutional exchange is a Dual Degree Doctorate Program in History. Metcalf's presence here will allow us to meet frequently and to discuss in depth the coordination of the program, to follow more closely the students enrolled in the Rice-UNICAMP Dual Degree, and to plan future programming of activities. In addition, she will also carry out activities with LECH-USP, in São Paulo. (AU)
