Abstract

My purpose is to investigate the concept of "manifold" in the Critique of Pure Reason, a concept that, within of the functional structure of the first Critique, has a fundamental importance, and whose specificity [i.e. the manifoldness] determines characteristics and operation of other elements of the same structure [i.e. the synthesis and categorical unity]. In view of the fact that it has been strangely left out of so much analysis of the Kantian conceptual repertoire, this research has the purpose not only to specify the crucial importance of this concept, but also to delimit and justify the duality in which it is usually presented, by Kant himself [i.e. pure manifold and empirical manifold].
