Abstract

In the last decades, the general concerns about the increasing of toxic gases emission levels induced a growing number of researches in new materials, devices and technologies to produce sensors to control the emissions. Besides this application sensors development to detect pleasant odors in food and cosmetic area is also of great interest. Conductive polymer sensors have shown promising results in these applications, which will make possible construction of portable and more efficient detection systems. In this context, we propose the synthesis of polythiophenes derivatives, such as 3-azosubstituted polythiophenes and poly(3-alkoxythiophene)s, aiming to produce new materials with different chemical affinities. Chemical-structural characterization of the synthesized polymers will be performed by spectroscopic and thermal techniques. Optical and electrical characteristics of polymeric thin films will be study in the presence of different gases. (AU)
