Abstract

This research intends to investigate the contingent fit between management control systems and strategy process and to examine its impact on performance in Brazilian organizations. It’s assumed that have not a management control system that can be equally useful in all strategy process contexts. It will be adopted a system approach for the definition of contingent fit. Management control systems will be examined in two dimensions: design and use. Strategy process will be also analyzed in two dimensions: formulation and administrative mechanisms. The strategy formulation will be examined in terms of its process and priority. It will be investigated two administrative mechanisms: organizational structure and management style. Organizational performance will be measured by means of multiple dimensions that will constitute an index of performance. It will be sent questionnaires for a probabilistic sample of Brazilian organizations. The organizations will be clustered as of similarities of management control system and strategy process and the Euclidian distance will be used to measure the effect of the contingent fit on organizational performance.
