Abstract There is a growing interest, among physicists, in the study of complex networks. Among the problems that has called attention in recent years are those related to the application of statistical mechanical techniques in the understanding and modeling some scale properties found in opinion propagation in social groups, more precisely in the data of proportional and majority elections. One of the models that has been employed in this context in the Sznajd model. In this work we will continue some analytical and theoretical studies developed by us with the Szjnad model (www.teses.usp.br, Fabio Vannucchi), in particular mean field calculations and the characterization of the transient behavior in networks of different topologies. We also intend to see how some more complex models (usually employed in the context of publicity), that take into account factors as cultural proximity and leadership can deal with this problem.
