Abstract

The research approaches the vertical growth evolution in São Paulo from 1940 till 1957 and the city being designed by the urban edification at the same period. Presenting a comparison between some buildings (1940-1957) witch were researched and some icon buildings at the same years, checking if the quality of the icon buildings in urban planning and the architecture were being spread for the rest of the architecture production on that period. The work also presents a comparison on the legislation and some buildings from 1940 till 1957, verifying if Construction Code allowed a freedom in building high and large buildings or it were determinated for the design of the city.
