Abstract

Studies carried out during the Scientific Initiation program and the two-month international internship in Seville, Spain, showed that, "the current intervention mechanisms in the urban space have contributed to the growth of business spaces, of true oases in a modern city, capitalist, with advanced technologies, but they have also influenced the construction of walled, fenced spaces, of "public" spaces without public. Furthermore, the results demonstrated that the constructive incentives provided by CEPACs end up reflecting on a significant transformation in the urban landscape in areas, such as Brooklin, which has undergone a recent intense verticalization process. More recently, with the participation of the activities of the binational project "High Rise Living and the Inclusive City", we came into contact with other discussions involving the verticalization process and the production of more inclusive cities. And during the process of selecting study cases, it was possible to identify developments that propose new typologies and ways of living and that present developments in urban spaces and public spaces. Considering these issues, this master's project is built according to the interest of investigating public space from the point of view of the logic of production of contemporary urban space associated with the phenomenon of verticalization in the city of São Paulo. Thus, it proposes the deepening of issues raised during the research trajectory with a more focused look at the public space and socio-spatial practices. Thus, the main objective is to investigate transformations in the public space and its socio-spatial practices resulting from the unfolding of verticalization processes, in particular vertical condominiums that propose new typologies and ways of living.Considering the availability of only 1 year of funding for this master's research by FAPESP, two stages of work development were considered, the first comprising the period of 1 year of commitments to FAPESP and the second, of the year subsequent completion of the proposed steps for the IAU-USP Graduate Program. Therefore, for the first stage, the bibliographic survey of books, articles, academic papers and all types of documentation that addresses issues related to the theme proposed in the study and an international internship in the cities of Lyon and London are proposed as methodology. . For the second stage: fieldwork in the public spaces of the selected areas as a study area, in order to identify practices, permanences and possible tensions, interviews with some residents of the selected vertical condominiums within the study areas, production of pre and post field graphic and cartographic material and finally, the construction of a reflection based on the data collected in the field and produced by the research with theoretical discussions about the notion of public space and the relation of the contemporary subject with this space, in order to think if the results obtained by this investigation could correspond or not to the readings of the authors worked. The results will be analyzed through the systematization of the information collected, in order to establish an articulation between the theoretical discussions raised about the notions and practices of public space and how the contemporary subject has been relating these spaces with the data collected and produced during the investigation. The results obtained are expected to elucidate the questions proposed in the present study. (AU)
