Abstract

The present project aims the treatment of wastewaters through Wetlands of vertical flow, added by a recirculation process. The main objective of this outline is to increase the efficiency when removing the nitrogen, once, according to Arias (2005) the wetlands of vertical flow are very efficient in the production of well nitrified effluents, however, the treated effluent is saturated of oxygen and has low level of carbons, and therefore, the total removal nitrogen is compromised. With the increment of the recirculation the effluent returns to the treatment process, where it finds the favorable conditions (anoxic conditions) to reduce the nitrogen rate. For a better study condition three sheets will be used composed by different substrata, the first, filled out with pebbles and stones nº1 and nº3, the second with stone nº3 and pebbles, and finally a third composed by stone no. 3, expanded polystyrene (Styrofoam) recycled and grinded, and pebbles. With the use of those different substrata it will be possible to evaluate which shows the best results and conditions for the treatment of wastewaters. (AU)
