Abstract

The principal objective of the doctoral research activities of Regina da Silva Lamblém is to study the Szegö type polynomials, given in relation to a moment functional with specfic properties defined on the space of Laurent polynomials. Among many others, the following topics will be considered: (a) bounds for the zeros and the existence of a three term recurrence relation for these polynomials. In particular, the caracterization of the three term recurrence relation so that the polynomials generated are Szegö type polynomials associated with some moment functional with the same properties; (b) associated para-orthogonal polynomials, three term recurrence relations for these polynomials, properties on their zeros and quadrature formulas; (c) numerical generation of the Szegö type polynomials and associated para-orthogonal polynomials. The current search activities of Regina, leading to her Masters degree (with a grant from FAPESP), will provide her with very good knowledge to carryout successfully her doctoral recearch activities.
