Abstract The two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch, is one of the most important pests of strawberry and ornamental plants in Brazil. One of the problems faced by the growers is the low efficacy of T. urticae control through the use of acaricides. The biological disequilibrium caused by the elimination of natural enemies and the development of resistance to several acaricides in this species are among the main causes for the control problems. The objective of this research is to provide basic information for the management of mites on strawberry and chrysanthemum. The specific objectives are: a) to study the host preference of T. urticae and predaceous mites to different cultivars of strawberry and chrysanthemum; b) to evaluate strategies for the control of two-spotted spider mite in strawberry and chrysanthemum fields: chemical control, biological control (predaceous mites, entomopathogenic fungi) and varietal influence; c) to compare cost and performance of T. urticae control between integrated production system and conventional strawberry production system.
