Growth curve and productivity of Nelore and crossbred cows with different biological types in intensive production system

Abstract

Body weight collected in 335 cows belonging to four genetic groups, representing different biological types: Nelore, 1/2 Canchim:1/2Nelore , 1/2 Angus:1/2Nelore 1/2Simental:1/2Nelore , born in the years 1988 to 2200 , in two birth season, spring and autumn. These cows remained in the herd until now, were produced in the research project of the EMBRAPA Center at São Carlos, SP. " Breed crossing strategies, beef cattle management and biotechnology for intensive production" developed in the years 1997 to 2001. Each animal was weighted at birth, six months, year, and in the reproductive phase , calving, weaning, beginning and end of breeding season. To the weight/age data of each cow it will be adjusted a non-linear model chosen among the usual growth curves: Brody, Richards, Von Bertalanffy, Gompertz and Logístic, using proc NLIN and NLIMIXED from SAS. It will be calculated indices for cow productivity in successive breeding seasons . Effects of mature weight and maturity rate on cow reproduction and productivity for different genetic groups will be evaluated with models of repeated measurement (AU)
