Abstract

Three studies will be developed to compare different selection strategies to improve uniformity of beef cattle production. The first consists in a comparison of dispersion measures of progeny performance and its use to penalize expected breeding value of sires with less uniform progeny. The second involves evaluation of different models of estimating variance components as a way to improve end product uniformity by selection. In the two first studies, data from different genetic groups of beef cattle will be used. A third study will be carried out to investigate, by stochastic simulation, economic consequences of using selection strategies to improve uniformity, under variation of genetic parameters and economic value of phenotypic variability.
