Abstract

The project is centered on the development of a short synthetic route for the preparation of selenocarbohydrates, derived from D-xylose, with different substitution patterns ate the organoselenium moiety. These products will be used as precursors for the synthesis of interesting synthetic intermediates, such as deoxyglucosides, exo-glucals and Se(IV)-oxacycles. Moreover, we also planned a synthesis of disaccharides and glycoconjugates, where the two basic units are connected by a selenium atom. Some selected compounds will be evaluated in anti-oxidant, analgesic and anti-inflammatory assays.
