Abstract

The Sorocaba River, the main left bank tributary of the Tiete River, is characterized as the main wellspring for the water captation municipalities in their drainage areas, aiming primarily the public supply around 1,000,000 inhabitants. The assessment of possible changes which are subject to natural ecosystems, under intensive industrial and / or agricultural occupation, can be performed with the use of different methodologies, which are associated with the water physical-chemical control and suspended matter transport throughout the drainage basin. The survey of hidrogeochemistry characteristics of the Sorocaba river drainage basin, based on fluvial dynamics of dissolved and particulate chemical species, an assessment of erosive processes, mechanical and chemical, which occur in the basin, considering the influence of anthropogenic and atmospheric total contributions in the dissolved chemical species in the river. Thus, it will be possible to establish the erosion balance in the drainage areas, identifying the main mechanisms that influence the mechanical erosion, as well as key processes change rock which are predominant in the drainage basin. The studied hidrogeochemistry aspects will allow a better understanding of the body water dynamics and, additionally, they can be used as a support for planning and adequate management of the drainage area towards human pressures that occur in the Sorocaba river basin.
