Abstract

In the scientific universe, classification systems have been acting as systematically ordered structures of ideas (classes) with the double purpose of ordering knowledge and organizing bibliographical collections. In this context, and more recently, one may observe ontologies as digital models of knowledge representation which specify a conceptualization, or be it, the formalization of a determined specialized group's mode of thought. Nevertheless, weighting the strong growth of these instruments, the area of Information Sciences still lacks methodological elements regarding the relation between classification systems and ontologies. With these aspects in mind, this project propose the development of a method for the collaborate construction of specialized classifications, with an ontology bases. It will be aided by Classification Theories, Dahlberg's Concept Theory, and Cabré's Communicative Theory of Terminology. The study will be based on conceptual structures, manifested by means of terms, which will represent knowledge classification systems. For such, it will be used a specific ontology editor for the capturing of subjects and for the analyses and treatment of results. The study will also count with the participation of professors of Library Science and librarians to construct ontologies that conceptually define specific schemes in Library Science, with the purpose of such schemes contributing to the establishment of the proposed method. Finally, what is planed here is the conception of a method for the construction of specialized classifications that effectively reflect the thoughts of a given community. (AU)
