Abstract

The composer of the 21st century has at his desk new technological tools to create music. Our study intends to research the impact of this radically expanded craftsmanship of music composition focusing on the creative aspect of the relation composer/technology. In a theoretical study, it is to be investigated how the technological resources interfere and modify the creative processes. This will be done by means of a bibliographical study and of musical analysis of compositions. In a technical study, specific solutions for the musical composition are to be developed. This is be done from the bibliographical study and from the creative experience itself, which shall demand technical solutions in the fields of interactive means (Pure Data/GEM/PDP, SuperCollider, Max/MSP/Jitter, Processing), algorithmic composition (PWGL, OpenMusic, Common Music), extended techniques of instrumental performance and manufactured musical controllers (with the use of the Arduino platform and several sensors). In a creative study - that integrates the D.Mus. program -, music pieces that use the studied technical resources are to be composed. This study shall be integrated to the technical one, consisting in an expanded process of creation. This research is connected to the thematic project intitled "The computer as musical creation and performance space" developed under the coordination of the Prof. Doctor Silvio Ferraz.
