Abstract

In order to deepen the research for Scientific Initiation that - under funding of FAPESP - performed throughout 2008, the work presented focuses on the attempt to systematize the peculiarly critical reading of Michael Löwy about modernity, in effect reading the contours of a history marked by the congestion scenario, if not exhausted, some of the more sedimented theories of "modernization." Strike it shows the ways in which the texts of Michael Löwy respond from a specific appropriation is Kulturpessimismus the Weberian and romantic and / or critical benjaminian progress, to the profound transformations of (post) modern capitalist contemporary.
