Abstract

The present work aims to study, specifically, the designation constituted of the meaning of the name "Portuguese" in a specific region of Latin America: the institutionalised space of the National University of Entre Ríos (UNER), in the city of Concordia, province of Entre Ríos - Argentina. In order to accomplish successfully our proposal, we will be dividing it into two moments: 1. the first one concerns the study of the relationship between the metaphor, regarded as a process of meaning construction, not limited to the study of the sentences/statements, but taking the event of the enunciation for granted (in accordance with Joanilho, 1996, 2005), and the designation, the way it is understood by Guimarães (2002), as a way of contributing to the studies around the theory of the designation of names/nouns in the interior of the epistemological and analytical domains of the Semantics of the Event; 2. the second moment deals with the study of the name of the national language "Portuguese" in the enunciations of speakers interviewed for the construction of our corpus. Thus, this study may reveal an important space of enunciation for the comprehension of the language policy attested in this region, because the designation of the considered name of national language functions, as we will be able to confirm through our analyses, by the relationship it establishes with the designation of other names of national languages, such as the one of the "Spanish", for instance. The way this project is planned, it is a form of apprehending the meaning of the name "Portuguese" as part of a language relationship (linguistic and symbolic relationship) in a political (and not geographical) frontier between Argentina and Brazil.
