The purpose of this project is to make a study on the designation of the name brasiguaio, theoretically inscribed in the enunciative perspective of the Semantic Event that is being developed in Brazil by Eduardo Guimarães. Owing to the conflict established between 2011 and 2012 involving brasiguaios and Paraguayan peasants, we became interested in how the name brasiguaio comes integrating texts circulating on the internet for the semantic instability of the name in the enunciation, in its restatement/ recovery process, pointing to a divided interpretation of the nationality. In this regard, the name appears as an argument which leads to different argumentative directions. From a corpus of enunciations news portals Internet, composed so far by Zero Hora online newspaper, Gazeta do Povo online, Portal do Senado do Brasil and La Nación newspaper, we seek to understand what brasiguaio means and which claims of belonging - to Brazil, to Paraguay, to both countries - own the functioning of the political language, are present in the enunciation of news about the conflicts involving brasiguaios.
