Abstract This research project will develop linear shell models from the respective geometrically exact models, which were elaborated by the advisor in the last few years. These models will be obtained by consistent linearization of the nonlinear models. The initial curved shell geometry will be regarded as a deformation from a planar reference configuration, as described in a recent article published in 2009 by the advisor in the International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering. The developed models will be implemented with the aid of the Meshless Method, known as Element-free Galerkin Method, which uses the Moving Least Squares Method. The main advantage of this method is the higher order of continuity of the approximation. The smooth shell geometry and the stresses will have a much better approximation. The possibility of exact description of the initial geometry is also open. Several numerical tests will be performed in order to show the effectiveness and robustness of the method. | |
