Abstract

Micropumps have become an important research area lately, mainly due to the high demand for low cost chemical analysis. The objective of the work here proposed is developing a membrane micropump prototype with electromagnetic actuation. A penumatic actuated prototype was developed in a previous work, which does not allows an integrated solution that eventually may be produced. The first step is the behavior characterization of several polyuretane acrilate membranes with different ferromagnetic layers width, exposed to different magnetic fields obtained through imposing currents to an specially designed inductance. A laser doppler velocimeter will be used to measure position and velocity of the membrane, and a structure will be built to guarantee the necessary precision. The mechanical parameters of the membranes will be estimated, and a new mathematical model will be developed to the micropump, which will make it possible to design new prototypes in order to attend flow requirements. The final prototype will be experimentally tested to confirm the expected performance and validate the multidomain mathematical model. The designed device is composed of two resevoirs, respectivelly an inlet and an outlet chambers, whcih comunicate to the membrane chamber through nozzles/diffusors. The membrane will be used also to block the fluid flow, at the end of each cycle.
