Abstract

The tests that assess intelligence require traditional skills and ways of meeting that certain groups do not have and therefore are not suitable for evaluation. Individuals with disorders of development, such as autism, mental retardation, disorders of language, hearing loss, among others, have certain characteristics that often impossible in fact express his skills or difficulties. Therefore, it is necessary to have a tool that allows evaluating populations as described above. In Brazil, studies have been conducted in an attempt to create or adapt existing instruments in other cultures for the assessment of intelligence in children. But these instruments do not include children younger than 5 years, with the exception of the Columbia Mental Maturity Scale and offer instructions and types of answers to standardized population with normal development, without taking into account specific aspects of different disabilities An instrument used internationally to evaluate the reasoning fluid in individuals with cognitive impairment is that the Leiter-R provides a measure of non-verbal intelligence (IQ) obtained through the battery of reasoning and visualization composed of 10 subtests. All instructions can be adapted, taking into account the needs or limitations of the subject and this requires not only verbal responses. It is therefore used in groups that do not benefit from traditional test as individuals with disorders of development. Therefore, the objective of this study is to perform the translation, adaptation, reliability and accuracy of the Battery of Reasoning and Visualization of Leiter-R to the Brazilian population in children 4 to 6 years of age. The translation, adaptation and back-translation will be performed in accordance with international guidelines for the use of tests. To assess the reliability of the instrument will be calculated the coefficient of precision test-retest reliability (or stability) by the method of halves (split-half). Evidence of validity will be performed by two analysis: developmental, verifying, through analysis of variance, if the scores on the Leiter-R test increases with age, from 4 to 6 years and correlation with the criterion tests Mental Maturity Scale Columbia, for ages 4 to 6 years and Progressive Color Matrices (special scale) for children 5 and 6 years.
