Abstract

RESUMEThis work intends to analyze the composition technique known as "mountain melody" and the orchestral treatment developed by the Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959) in the music score "New York Skyline Melody"(1939). The aim is also to establish the support of the orchestral treatment based on the melodic material of programmatic music, correlating Villa-Lobos with contemporary composers in works that show esthetics combination, such as: "Pictures at an Exhibition" by Modest Mussorgsky, "Couleurs de La Cité Céleste" by Olivier Messiaen and "Hyperprism" by Edgar Varèse.
