Abstract

The behavior-analytic therapist can work therapeutically in a variety of ways. One of them is the direct management of the clinically relevant behavior when they occur in session in the context of the therapeutic relationship. In order to describe the behavior-analytic child therapy, the aim of this research is to find regularities in therapists responding when the child emits instances of such clinically relevant behaviors in session related to problems or behavior improvement. To do so, five behavior-analytic therapists and their respective clients will be selected to participate. Ten psychotherapy sessions of each therapist-client will be recorded so that the researcher will code client?s responses as Problem Behavior Instance (PBI), Improvement Behavior Instance (IBI) and Other Behaviors (OB) and also will code the therapists? responses using the Multidimensional System for Coding Behavior in Therapeutic Interaction. The sequential analysis of client-therapist interactions will be made in order to determine the conditional probability of the therapist?s responses to clients? responses through the sessions. A comparison of the prevalence of therapist?s behavior will be made through the sessions and the participating therapists so that the regularities can be pointed.Key words: responding regularities, contingency shaped behavior, behavior coding, in session management, behavior-analytic child therapy.
