Abstract

The ethylene has been pointed as the main hormone correlated to the events of the fruit ripening. However, for longtime has been observed that auxins can act as a regulator of the ripening as well, but just during the last decade this role of the auxins has been called attention. Bananas treated with 1-MCP demonstrated that ethylene is closed correlated to the changes in activity and expression of the starch metabolizing enzymes, namely, beta-amylase and DPE2. Furthermore, high levels of auxin in banana fruit cause the delay in starch degradation and are related to the inhibition of the transcription and activity of the beta-amylase which indicates the existence of a relationship between auxins and ethylene as regulators of the starch metabolism in banana fruit. The influence of the IAA on gene expression and activity of DPE2 has not yet reported. In this case, given the well known influence of the auxins in fruit ripening, particularly on banana starch metabolism, and the previous reports about the involvement of the auxins on ethylene receptors gene expression, the aim of this project is evaluate the action of the IAA on fruit ripening verifying its action on ethylene receptors transcription and the correlations with changes in gene expression and activity of starch metabolizing enzymes, beta-amylase and DPE2.
