Abstract

The Alta Floresta Gold Province is located in the south portion of the Amazon Craton. Within this province the Peixoto de Azevedo region represents the main gold district. Several aluvionar and supergene gold mineralizations have been exhausted, but primary gold ore is being exploited by miners (garimpeiros). Lode and mineralized veins are strongly structurally-controlled, occur mainly along shear zones and have characteristics similar to those of orogenic gold deposits. Additionally, disseminated gold mineralization and stockworks hosted by Paleo to Mesoproterozoic granites share attributes with Intrusion-Related Gold Systems. Thus, the temporal and spatial association between granites and gold mineralization may contribute to increase the exploration potential of the region. This project aims the geological characterization of host granites closely related with gold deposits and definition of their ages of emplacement and mantelic derivation using U-Pb (zircon) and Sm-Nd (whole rock) methodologies.
